Rooftop Tent RFQ Guide: How Buyers Should Request a Quote

Table of Contents

When a buyer sends a rooftop tent supplier a message that only says “Please send price,” the reply is usually not very useful. The supplier may need to ask five more questions before giving a number, and the buyer still ends up comparing different product configurations.

A good rooftop tent RFQ is not complicated. It just needs enough information for a factory to quote the product you actually want. This is especially important for inflatable rooftop tents because fabric, mattress, air system, accessories and packaging can all change the final quotation.

Start with the product, not the target price

Describe the product first: inflatable, soft shell or hard shell; expected sleeping capacity; main vehicle type; fabric preference if you already have one; and any features that cannot change. A product photo, reference model and short list of must-have features are often enough for a first discussion.

Separate standard items from customization

Write down what can stay standard and what needs to change. The tent structure may be standard while the logo, color, carry bag and carton are customized. Another buyer may need a different fabric or accessory package.

This distinction matters because a logo project and a structural redesign are two very different OEM jobs. Ask the supplier to quote the base product and custom items separately whenever possible.

Ask for the commercial details together

A useful RFQ should ask for unit price, MOQ, sample policy, production lead time, packing details, gross weight and package size. For a wholesale order, also ask which parts of the quote change with quantity.

For a private label project, ask whether logo, color and packaging have separate MOQs. That one question can save a lot of back-and-forth later.

Tell the supplier where you will sell

The destination market can affect documentation, labeling, testing and packaging. You do not need a long compliance brief in the first message, but you should at least give the target country or region and your sales channel.

Ask for a like-for-like quote

When talking to several factories, ask every supplier to quote the same configuration. If one quote includes an electric pump and another includes only a manual pump, the price gap does not tell you much.

A simple quote table with SKU, material, included accessories, customization, MOQ, price, lead time and packing data makes the comparison much easier.

Do not forget the small questions

Ask whether the logo goes on the tent or bag, whether the mattress is included, what spare parts are standard, whether packaging is included in the quoted price, and whether sample charges can be credited against a later bulk order.

Use the current product configuration

PlayDo’s current product pages show that different rooftop tent models have different materials, packed sizes, accessories and customization options. So a serious B2B inquiry should identify the exact model or configuration instead of asking for a generic “rooftop tent price.”

A simple RFQ format

Keep the first message to one page: product type, target market, estimated quantity, customization needs, required accessories, packaging needs and desired delivery date. Then ask the supplier to return unit price, MOQ, lead time, package size, gross weight and sample terms.

FAQ

Q: Should I give my target price first? A: It is usually more useful to ask for a complete quote based on one clearly defined configuration, then negotiate after you understand what is included.

Q: Do I need a detailed drawing for an RFQ? A: Not always. An existing model, product photos, target size and a written feature list are often enough for the first quotation.

Q: What is the most important information to include? A: Product type, estimated quantity, target market and customization requirements are the core items.
