How to Set Up an Inflatable Rooftop Tent in 5 Minute

Table of Contents

The whole point of an inflatable rooftop tent is that “set up camp” stops being a chore. No poles, no rainfly wrestling, no “which pole goes where.” Here’s the exact step-by-step we give every PlayDo owner — from pulling into camp to climbing into bed in under five minutes.

What You Get Out of the Box

Your tent ships with the inflated body, a built-in 7 cm mattress, a 230 cm telescopic ladder, a 12V electric pump, and guy lines. The air beams are already sewn into the fabric — there’s nothing to assemble.

Step-by-Step Setup (Under 5 Minutes)

  1. Park level and engage the handbrake. A level roof means a level bed.
  2. Release the straps holding the rolled tent, and unzip the travel cover.
  3. Unfold and drop the tent over the sides of the roof — it hangs like a soft shell.
  4. Connect the pump to the valve and inflate. Most PlayDo tents firm up in 60–90 seconds.
  5. Extend the ladder from the tent base to the ground and lock it.
  6. Clip the windows open or closed, and you’re done. Climb up.

Packing Down (3 Minutes)

  1. Clear the mattress and fold bedding inside.
  2. Deflate via the quick-release valve (60 seconds).
  3. Fold the fabric up along the beams and roll toward the roof.
  4. Strap and zip the travel cover. That’s it.

Pro Tips to Pack Faster

  • Keep the ladder extended and clipped to the tent during the trip — one less step each night.
  • Store the pump in the same pocket every time so you’re not hunting for it.
  • In wind, inflate with one long side already tucked — it won’t balloon around.

FAQ

How long does inflation actually take?

60–90 seconds with the included 12V pump. Hand pumps add a couple of minutes.

Can I set it up alone?

Easily. One person can unfold, inflate, and ladder in under 5 minutes — that’s the inflatable advantage over pole tents.

What if the pump fails?

Every tent includes a manual backup valve option; a standard camping foot pump also works on the same valve.

Do I need to guy it out every time?

In calm weather, no. In wind or rain, clip the guy lines to the ground for stability.

How do I deflate quickly?

Open the quick-release valve and press the beams — most tents flatten in under a minute.
